How small
Cascais have appx. 30 000 inhabitants.
History

Beaches
There's plenty of small beaches in walking distance from the city centre. The most central beach in Cascais i Praia Pescadores (Fishermen's beach). This beach is still used by fishermen and it is not advised to swim here, but it's still used by many tourists and locals to lie down on the beach and sunbather and relax.
